The winery is located in Ivaylovgrad, which is situated in the easternmost part of the Eastern Rhodopes, southern Bulgaria. The Mediterranean or White Sea is only 70 km away and brings the so-called “white wind,” which has an extremely beneficial effect on the aromatic characteristics of the grapes. The area is semi-hilly, with cinnamon-colored forest soils. The area is semi-hilly, with cinnamon-colored forest soils. The vineyards are entirely owned by the winery, are about 20 years old, and are located on the outskirts of Ivaylovgrad.
The root,
is deeper than
we thought
We started in a turbulent and controversial time for Bulgaria, and it turned out that the roots were deeper than we had anticipated. That is why, when we look back, we see that we are still developing the philosophy behind our work. The most important thing about it is connecting centuries-old tradition with creation, learning from our mistakes, and taking pride in our achievements.
These principles guide us every day, determine our behavior, and mark our development. This is how the unthinkable and provocative vineyards of the varieties Syrah, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Traminer, Viognier, Alicante Bouchet, and Muscat Bianco appeared in Ivaylovgrad. With the traditional Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the palette is complete and captivating even to the most discerning connoisseurs.
We rely on the excellent natural resources of the region, preserved from industrial and environmental pollution, the warm and mild climate at 41 degrees latitude, the semi-hilly terrain and fertile mineral soils, the crystal clear waters and constant winds carrying humid Mediterranean air.
We use the exquisite grapes that have absorbed the caressing southern sun and the invigorating mountain breeze, giving the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon wines their characteristic aromas, high fruitiness, and density.
Ivana Yamantieva
This is the person who puts their talent, love, and spirit into wine. She nurtures… and that is precisely the definition—she nurtures wine. She guides and controls its new birth, helping it through every stage of its development. She corrects its exuberant and fickle character. She nurtures and educates the young wine, guiding it towards its destiny and fulfilment. And finally, she gives it a piece of her immense love for the world around her. A piece that supports it and sparkles in your glasses on festive occasions and every day. In every joyful, solemn, or sad moment, sipping from Mrs. Ivana Yamantieva’s wines, you will be warmed and loved.
Julian Yamantiev
Caring for the vineyards is one of Julian Yamantiev’s priorities. The young vineyards were created after assessing the need to adjust the variety composition of the vineyards, change the terroir, and comply with global trends in viticulture and winemaking. “We planted the young vines, which I call ‘the young soldiers’, at an altitude of over 400 m and placed them on the solid foundation of the marble soil,” says Julian Yamantiev. According to him, each vine must receive the necessary “education” and “training” to give its best. Caring for vines is similar to caring for any human being, and the family is convinced that through wine they are realizing a part of the Supreme Creator’s universal plan.
